We will continue to meet in person as long as the Governor's guidelines allow. The current recommendation is that masks are encouraged when meeting indoors. As a result, masks are encouraged but not required at our daytime and evening meetings.

This year our scholarship committee updated the CWF Scholarship to go to a female student over the age of 25  pursuing a degree or certificate at Craven Community College. We are very grateful to Tanya Roberts for pulling all the pieces together and identifying our scholar, DeAnne Holliday.

DeAnne Holliday will be entering the Associates Degree in Nursing (R.N.) program this fall at Craven Community College, in order to attain her lifelong dream of becoming a Registered Nurse.  While she had attended an R.N. program in the mid-1980s, illness forced her to discontinue her studies. Now she has just finally gotten the opportunity to return to school again! After graduating from Craven, she plans to attain a Bachelors’ degree in Nursing from UNC-Wilmington. Her long-term goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner.

One of her passions is providing free or low-cost mobile clinics to serve the rural communities for the uninsured or under-insured.  DeAnne lived in Nevada for four years and witnessed how the Nevada Department of Health sponsored mobile vans to send their teams of healthcare professionals around the State to serve the residents in the small and isolated desert communities. She would very much like to be involved in this type of project in North Carolina so that she can make a positive impact on her...our community.

DeAnne was awarded $2000 through the college, a one year membership with CWF, and the board has voted to host her at any of the meetings she chooses to attend throughout the year. Congratulations!
