Sound Rivers (http://www.soundrivers.org/) is a nonprofit organization that guards the health of the Neuse and Tar-Pamlico River Basins. We unite with concerned citizens to monitor, protect and preserve the watersheds covering nearly one-quarter of North Carolina.

Founded in 2015 with the merger of two of the state’s oldest grassroots conservation organizations, Sound Rivers combines the deep history of advocacy of the Neuse River Foundation, established in 1980, and the Pamlico-Tar River Foundation, established in 1981. This union to become Sound Rivers creates a powerful advocate protecting our most cherished waterways and bolsters our impact within the State of North Carolina.

Water Protection ~ Sound Rivers protects your waterways. Your RIVERKEEPERS fight for stronger pollution protections, enforcement of existing regulations, and creative solutions to environmental challenges. We work with communities to solve flooding and water quality issues, and defend threats to laws protecting your environment and health.

Community Engagement ~Sound Rivers helps you access your waterways. We believe an engaged public is a precondition to fulfilling a clean water future. That's why we provide accessible kayak launches, our Tar-Pamlico Water Trail camping platforms, and educational programs. Our annual Swim Guide program provides water quality information for popular recreation spots weekly throughout the summer, so you have up to date information on the safety of the water you're swimming, boating, and fishing in.

Pollution Reduction ~Sound Rivers' projects reduce pollution in your waterways. Stormwater runoff from hard surfaces such as roads, roofs, and parking lots is one of the largest causes of nutrient pollution in your waterways. Sound Rivers implements innovative solutions to stormwater issues and advocates for changes in stormwater policy. Our Craven County Stormwater: Restoration and Education program partners with schools in our area to alleviate stormwater runoff while also providing learning opportunities for students.

Donations to Sound Rivers support all these programs, and your giving means your Riverkeepers can continue working for your clean water. Together, we can make a clean water future possible!
